MS CMPE Program Requirements
Overview
To meet the requirements for the MS in Computer Engineering, a student must complete at least 30 units of 200-level courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. No undergraduate course counts towards the master's degree until approved by the graduate advisor. Either Plan A (with thesis) or Plan B (without thesis, project or course-only) may be chosen.
Degree Requirements
Students entranced before Fall 2009
- Degree Core (6 units)
- Specialization Core (minimum 9 units from a selected specialization)
- Technical Electives (minimum 9 units)
- Internships (optional)
- Projects (6 units)/thesis (6 units)/Comprehensive exam (1 unit)
- Graduate Writing Requirement
- A total of 30 or more units (not including Graduate Writing Requirements)
Students entranced in Fall 2009 and after
- Degree Core (9 units)
- Specialization Core (minimum 9 units from a selected specialization)
- Technical Electives (minimum 6 units)
- Internships (optional)
- Projects (6 units)/thesis (6 units)/Comprehensive exam (1 unit)
- Graduate Writing Requirement
- A total of 30 or more units (not including Graduate Writing Requirements)

- Embedded Systems - CMPE 240 (before Fall 2009), 242, 243, 244, 245, 261, 262, 265
- Secure Systems - CMPE 209, 279, 287
Technical Elective Courses
- CMPE graduate courses (except CMPE 270, 271, 294, 298, and 298I)
- At most two pre-approved graduate courses from another departments
Internship Course
- CMPE 298I
Project Courses
